Surfect Technologies & Machineart design electroplating tool

November 28th, 2007

Surfect Technologies, Inc., a design and manufacturing company offering an innovative single cell electroplating tool and process for the semiconductor industry, and Machineart Inc. have completed the industrial design of the Ascent 200, the first tool in the Surfect line. Mark W. Eichhorn, Corporate VP – Sales & Marketing said that, “As we prepare for production machine market entry, we needed a professional industrial design company that would give our tool the form, fit and function needed to be successful in our market. The design developed by Machineart will give Surfect acceptance in the semiconductor assembly space.”

Andrew Serbinski, Machineart Principal stated, “the opportunity to work on this program enabled us to design a product for Surfect that communicates its precision bumping technology and readily distinguish the tool in the market. The design language will be applied to other products over time to build a consistent, recognizable brand identity”.

Characteristics of the design include a simple charcoal grey rectilinear form that encloses the main volume, and a platinum grey facade that swells in the center to reflect the electroplating engine inside. A translucent PVC window enables viewing the process and rotates to the side to provide access to the silicon wafer. The Ascent logo, made up of a grid of backlit “bumps”, glows and provides a unique product distinguishing effect. A keyboard rests on a pull out drawer beneath the work surface and is out of the way when not needed. The work surface will accommodate an automatic feed mechanism on certain models. The facade parts are easily removable for maintenance access.

Machineart Industrial Design provides new product design and development services focusing on concept exploration, visual brand identity, enclosure engineering and prototyping. Other services include user interface design, product graphics, and packaging design. Projects range in scale and complexity from full product development programs to specific design support tasks for companies. Machineart works in the areas of consumer electronics, professional equipment, medical products, housewares, juvenile products, and powersports.
